What the law says
The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 came into force on 1 May 2026[27]. No operator holds a New Zealand licence yet[1]. The regulator expects to issue the first ones from early 2027[2].
Until then the market is in transition. Offshore casinos that served New Zealand before 1 May 2026 may keep operating until 1 December 2026[2]. The Department of Internal Affairs says it is legal for you to play with them, and adds that there are no guarantees of player safety[1].
| Date | What changes for online pokies |
|---|---|
| 1 May 2026 | The Act is in force. No new offshore providers may enter[28]. Online casino advertising is prohibited[28]. |
| 1 December 2026 | Providers that have not applied for a licence must stop operating in New Zealand[28]. Applicants may continue, without advertising, until their decision[28]. |
| From early 2027 | First licences, up to 15 in total[27]. Licensed sites must show a registration icon and appear on a public register[2]. |
| 1 June 2027 | Latest date for all licence decisions[1]. |
What that means for this page: every site in the ledger is an offshore operator. None is licensed in New Zealand. We will add the register status as soon as the register exists.
Payouts: two clocks
A payout has two parts. First the casino processes your request. Then the payment method moves the money. Operators like to quote the second clock and stay quiet about the first.
Casumo is a clear example. Its payout table says Skrill and Apple Pay are instant after approval[3]. The terms give Casumo three days to approve or deny a withdrawal; the home page says a matter of hours. Plan on three days.[4]
A card adds up to 2 days after approval, a bank transfer up to 5[3]. Elsewhere the first clock is longer: LeoVegas allows up to five working days[18], and LeoVegas does not pay out to Mastercard or to ANZ, BNZ and ASB cards at all[19].
We have not timed any of this. No account, no deposit, no withdrawal. The figures are what the operator commits to in writing.
Deposits and ID
The lowest minimum deposit in the ledger is $5, at Boo Casino[5]. Read the small print: the same operator's terms say €10–30 or equivalent; the welcome package needs $20[5][29]. When two pages disagree, budget for the higher number.
Fees and ID checks have their own traps. Send documents before you ask for money, not after. The clauses are on the online pokies real money page.
One rule arrives with licensing. Licensed operators may not accept credit cards[30]. Debit cards stay allowed[31].

Bonus terms
We list terms, not offers. At Casumo the welcome offer is 100% up to $1,500 + 150 free spins, $10 minimum, 30x wagering on the bonus, $5 max bet[32]. Its own "T&Cs apply" link on the NZ home page opens the Canadian version of the offer, so read the terms page itself[32]. Wagering of 25x to 40x is the offshore norm today.
Licensed NZ operators will work under tighter rules. A bonus that needs no spend may not exceed $100[30]. Winnings from a bonus must be withdrawable without any requirement to gamble them again[30]. You get at least 60 days to meet the terms[30]. These rules do not bind transitional providers[1].
RTP versions
RTP belongs to the game, not the casino. But many providers ship one pokie in several versions, and the casino chooses.
Play'n GO publishes Book of Dead at 96.21%, 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.25%, 84.18%[33]. Quickspin lists Big Bad Wolf at 97% and 90%[34]. Same reels, different maths. Open the game's info screen at the casino and read the figure before you stake money. Our free pokies page lists the versions for each demo.
Sites we could not read
Every site was opened from a New Zealand IP on 5 October 2026. One of them could not be read in a way we can stand behind:
- Mr Bet: sends New Zealand visitors to rotating mirror domains (1mrbet.club to 10mrbet.club) that name different operators and have no payments page.
Where to play
Casumo is first in the ledger by stated payout time, the only site that promises approval within three days. It runs under Gibraltar, Remote Gaming Licences 126 and 127[3] and offers over 6,000 games, 3,500+ slots[3][35]. Support is live chat and email, not round the clock: 7 pm to 11 am NZDT until 25 October[3]. The full row for every site, with limits and fees, is in the top 10 online pokies NZ table.
Who this list is wrong for
I would not pick Casumo if you want help at any hour. Support is live chat and email, not round the clock: 7 pm to 11 am NZDT until 25 October[3]. It does not publish a minimum withdrawal[36], and it never names NZD outright[37].
It fits if you want an e-wallet or Apple Pay payout with the shortest written approval time in this ledger, and can still wait up to three days. If you would rather wait for a licensed NZ operator, that is a fair call. The first licences are expected from early 2027.
